A collection of six account books relating to Noble's and Peter Welch's business activities. Included is a ledger, 1803-1804 of Noble's accounts as a shoemaker; a memoranda book of suits brought by Noble against his debtors, 1809-1828; a writing exercise book; a memoranda book of work performed and time lost by employees, 1822-1848; a journal of carpentry work performed, 1833-1835; and Peter Welch's ledger of accounts of carpentry work performed, 1822-1831.

Noble was a prominent resident of Essex County, N.Y. He moved to Essex in 1799 and began a career as a shoemaker. He married the sister-in-law of Peter Welch, a carpenter. Noble eventually owned vast tracts of timberland in Essex County and operated a large tanning business and sawmill.
